CDCP Dental Plan Explained: Your Calgary Clinic Guide

Access to quality dental care should never be a luxury, yet for decades, many Canadians without private insurance have struggled to afford essential treatments. The introduction of the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is changing the landscape of oral health across the nation.

If you live in Alberta and are looking for a trusted CDCP dentist Calgary, the team at Genesis Dental Centre in SW Calgary is ready to guide you through the process, maximize your new benefits, and provide you with top-tier dental care.

What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The CDCP is a landmark federal government program designed to reduce financial barriers to oral healthcare for uninsured Canadian residents with an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000. It is aimed at ensuring that vulnerable populations—such as seniors, persons with disabilities, and children—can receive the preventive and restorative treatments they desperately need.

At Genesis Dental Centre, we proudly embrace this initiative. We firmly believe that preventative care is the right of every citizen, and we are thrilled to accept patients utilizing their CDCP coverage. You can read the specific details regarding our clinic's participation on our CDCP dental insurance SW Calgary page.

Who is Eligible in 2026?

By 2026, the rollout phases of the CDCP have expanded to cover all eligible Canadians who meet the following criteria:

  • You must not have access to private dental insurance (through an employer, pension, or privately purchased plan).

  • Your adjusted family net income must be under $90,000.

  • You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes and have filed your tax return in the previous year.

When you apply through Service Canada and are approved, you will receive a welcome package and a member card from Sun Life, the administrative partner for the program.

What Services Are Covered Under the CDCP?

The CDCP covers a broad spectrum of fundamental dental services designed to keep your teeth and gums healthy. As a full-service dental clinic in SW Calgary, Genesis Dental Centre offers most of the treatments covered under the plan, which generally include:

1. Preventive and Diagnostic Services The bedrock of oral health. This includes comprehensive exams, diagnostic X-rays to detect hidden decay, and scaling (cleaning) to prevent periodontal disease.

2. Restorative Services If you have cavities, the plan covers standard restorative work. At our clinic, we focus on aesthetic, durable results using white fillings that blend perfectly with your natural tooth color, as well as generaldental fillings in SW Calgary.

3. Oral Surgery and Endodontics Nobody should have to live in pain due to financial constraints. The CDCP provides coverage for essential oral surgeries like tooth extractions and tooth-saving endodontic procedures like root canals.

4. Prosthodontic Services For patients missing multiple teeth, the ability to chew properly and speak confidently is vital. The CDCP includes provisions for removable prosthetics, and our team is highly skilled in providing comfortable, custom-fitteddentures and flippers.

How Co-Payments Work with the CDCP

It is essential to understand that the CDCP is not always a "100% free" program. It operates on a co-payment system based on your family's net income:

  • Income under $70,000: The CDCP covers 100% of eligible treatment costs (based on the established CDCP fee grid).

  • Income between $70,000 and $79,999: The CDCP covers 60% of eligible costs; the patient pays 40%.

  • Income between $80,000 and $89,999: The CDCP covers 40% of eligible costs; the patient pays 60%.

Note: The CDCP has its own established fee guide. If a clinic's fees differ from the CDCP fee grid, the patient is responsible for the difference. Genesis Dental Centre maintains transparent pricing and will always provide a clear estimate before any treatment begins.
